In this Q&A style demonstration class, you will learn how to create a stunning 3D and gravity-defying showpiece using a wide variety of edible mediums – modeling chocolate, fondant, edible paints, isomalt, and wafer paper. The instructor will discuss the process of building this showpiece using real cake.
This is what you will learn in class:
  • How to build this gravity-defying structure with cake
  • How to build and add texture to the koi fish body and fins
  • How to add a feathered airbrush effect
  • How to add dramatic isomalt effects and incorporate this into their showpiece
  • How to build, color, and shade rocks with added moss
  • How to make lotus flowers out of wafer paper and attach them to a showpiece

Meet Your Instructor: Emerlie Miller

Emerlie Ann Miller is a local Sugar Artist of Utah who runs My Sugar Rush. She spent several years as a self-taught cake decorator, before gaining additional experience at a Harmon’s grocery store and the popular Cupcake Wars winning bakery One Sweet Slice. From there she moved to Toronto to earn a Confectionary Arts Diploma from Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts – A small scale, world-renown cake college. Emerlie learned the professional art of baking and decorating cakes and other pastries from current professionals in the industry who are the masters of their art. Shortly after returning home from school, she started decorating cakes on her own. Emerlie is passionate to teach advanced cake decorating techniques she has picked up from 11+ years of experience. Known as a Jack-of-all-Trades Sugar Artist in the industry – she specializes in wedding cakes, sculpted cakes, recipe development, chocolate, and isomalt. This is all done with 20+ food allergies and intolerances, relying on the science of baking and family as taste testers to create award-winning cakes and pastries. Emerlie has competed professionally on Food Network’s Santa’s Baking Blizzard (2019) as a Cake Artist and Baker, Holiday Wars (2020) as a Sugar Artist and Pastry Chef, and most recently on The Big Bake (2021) as a Sugar Artist and Baker. The most recent appearance alongside her team Sweet and Salty, they won their episode Caketastic Carnival and become Food Network Champions.
